Chris is the Head of Discovery at Metagenomi where he leads efforts to discover novel microbial systems for use in genome editing, and other applications. At Metagenomi, Chris applies his expertise in metagenomics and his experience working with diverse organisms and microbial communities for the development of our proprietary discovery engine. Chris earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Florida, and a Ph.D. in Plant and Microbial Biology at UC Berkeley while working with Professor Jill Banfield, Ph.D.. He conducted postdoctoral research at UC Berkeley in the lab of Professor Jamie Cate, Ph.D. with support from the Agouron Institute as a Life Sciences Research Foundation fellow, where he discovered and characterized novel catalytic RNAs from uncultivated microbes
