Lou Walcer was appointed in June 2011 as the first Director of the Kevin M. McGovern Family Center for Venture Development in the Life Sciences at Cornell University—Cornell’s first on-campus startup incubator facility and program. In its brief history, McGovern Center Client companies have raised over $250M in investor financing. the Center has produced two “unicorns”, one “minicorn”, and been recognized as one of the top company incubators in North America. During his tenure at Cornell, Lou has also served as Director and Chair of the Business Incubator Association of New York State. Prior to his work at Cornell, Lou served as Senior Commercialization Officer, New Ventures at Cleveland Clinic Innovation’s incubator complex. That work was preceded by a long track record of building and launching new products and new ventures for Merck, Schering-Plough and Wyeth; as Consultant to and Executive Officer for many Biotech/Medical Device companies. Lou has been advisor and principal in dozens of seed, early-stage financings, as well as IPO’s and shareholder exits by sale. Lou earned a B.A. degree from Cornell University’s College of Arts & Sciences, and his M.B.A. from NYU’s Stern School.
